What sources does Gali mine content from?

Gali sources content from the IBD and medical communities, including online pamphlets and handouts from medical centers, resources from non-profit organizations and medical associations and insights and stories from personal blogs, vlogs and social media. Gali not only collects information widely available online, but also gains knowledge from the IBD community and medical professionals who submit insights, education and tips through the Gali app.

What are the different types of information Gali provides?

Gali provides a vast array of information in a variety of formats, including educational and lifestyle tips, community insights and experiences.

Education Tips come from the IBD patient or medical communities and help to further your understanding of IBD or overall health.

Community Experiences are insights where community members share their personal experiences of living their lives with IBD. Living with a chronic condition can be difficult and these insights assure you that you are not alone.

Community Insights are personal experiences that provide actionable support to the Gali community, such as tips for a better infusion appointment, how to cope with stress or tips for traveling with IBD.

How does Gali make sure the information she provides is vetted and accurate?

Information available to people with IBD online isn’t always accurate, and there is no standard for what information can be distributed about the condition. Unwilling to promote questionable resources, we created a 3-step verification process that allows for the Gali community to receive accurate information. Here is exactly how our content verification process works:

Our 3-step verification process
Our team has collected a vast variety of content that includes educational and management tips, as well as real life experiences of patients. There’s quite a bit out there, but not everything meets our rigorous standards. Each piece of content, whether submitted by our users or collected from an external resource, is processed through our 3-step verification process to determine its inclusion:

Step 1: Our content team evaluates information to determine if content comes from a credible source, is backed by research, respects the diversity of experiences, is easily accessible to all and includes helpful information. Content that meets this criteria is then passed along to Gali herself for evaluation.

Step 2: Gali uses an algorithm informed by validated information quality scales to score each piece of content on quality and accuracy. If the content score reaches the predetermined threshold for inclusion, Gali alerts our team that a particular piece should be introduced into her knowledge base.

Step 3: Before Gali begins to learn from and deliver this piece of content to our users, it must pass one more quality checkpoint. Our multidisciplinary medical review team makes the final decision on the information Gali includes in her knowledge base.

Because of our commitment to accurate information, we’ve found it somewhat challenging to find specialized content that addresses the detailed aspects of patient experiences and also meets our quality standards. So we’ve decided to make our own! We are partnering with the medical, research, non-profit, and patient communities to create content that meets the unique needs of the IBD community.

Can I search Gali’s knowledge-base for a particular topic?

The best way to search Gali’s knowledge base is to ask her a question through the chat feature of the mobile app. She is eager and waiting to share resources with you that are relevant to your IBD, health and lifestyle. Simply click the “Chat with Gali” button at the top of your feed and tell Gali what you’re looking for.

How does Gali personalize information to me?

Gali is always learning. Every day, she learns from information and data she collects from members of her community. The best person to help Gali learn how to best personalize her information is you! You are the expert on your illness journey and the best teacher. As you track your health, answer Gali’s questions and chat with her, Gali combines this information with your health history and passive wearable data to learn and adjust to the daily and long-term changes in your health.

Gali Mind (AI)

What is the Gali Mind (AI)?

The Gali Mind (AI) makes sure that users are provided information that is personalized and that is offered within the right context. The AI is made up of three key components:

1. Gali Disease Models, which are based on disease treatment and care guidelines established by the medical community and enable her to understand the context of specific health conditions.

2. A Behavioral Model that helps her interact intelligently in response to various events, provide support, educate or connect with relevant coaching programs or services.

3. The Deep Learning Layer, which ensures that Gali constantly processes new information and gets smarter with time.

Insights

What is an insight?

An insight is IBD-related information or personal experience that is educational, actionable and/or reassuring to the IBD community. Think about information that has helped you along the way with your health journey and what experiences you can share with others to guide and support them.

Types of insights

Original: An original insight is one you create, so it originates with you. This insight can be a short text, an article, audio, video, or image. Think of an IBD experience, story, or helpful tip you have collected along the way and share this with other Gali community members. Original insights should discuss how the information can help others or create a sense of hope.

Imported: Do you know an informative resource that has helped you learn about and cope with your IBD? An imported insight was created by someone else that you found useful and want to share with others. This insight can be an article, audio, video, or image. Include the content’s URL with a short description of what it is about and why it is helpful to others.

How do I submit an insight?

All insights are submitted through the Gali app.

Steps:
1.    Click the “Submit an insight” button at the top of your feed.

    2.    Complete the required fields.
3.    Provide a URL if needed so we can reference the source.
4.    Click submit!

How will I know if my insight is helpful?

When your insight is delivered, community members have the opportunity to like or comment on your content. In the future, you will be able to access reports that will show how many people found your submission helpful.

Chat

How do I chat with Gali and what can we talk about?

There are several ways you can chat with Gali. You can either start a new chat or continue any of your previous conversations. To access chat, simply click the “Chat with Gali” button at the top of your feed or on Gali’s avatar, or continue an existing chat with Gali from your news feed. All of your prior chats are also available through the “chats” tab of the bottom navigation menu.

Gali’s chat has recently been completely redesigned to be more interactive and timely. Based on the great conversations she has had with her users, Gali can now better handle these types of chats:

1. Asking for information on living with IBD 🤓 (“Can you send me information on…”)

2. Sharing how you’re feeling, both physically and mentally 💜 (“I’m feeling pretty bloated today.”)

3. Asking her for a check-in report 📝 (“Can I get a check-in for the last 2 months?”)

4. Signing up for the IBD Footprints Program 🦠 (“I want to join the study!”)

5. Redeeming rewards 💰 (“I want to redeem my Gali rewards!”)

Gali will continue to learn more and more skills over time as she chats. We’re really excited to watch her grow along with our community! Since she’s still getting the hang of her new training, please bear with her as she makes this transition. Gali and her team really appreciate your patience!

Just a reminder, Gali is not a human so she can only understand one message at a time, and it can be best to keep them short. Also, although she is a helpful IBD assistant, she is not a clinician and cannot provide any clinical advice or suggestions.

Are humans ever involved in my chat? How long do I have to wait for an answer?

Some questions are more difficult to answer than others. Gali will let you know immediately that she received your message and whether she can understand it. She currently relies on human assistance for finding relevant content related to your message, so if you chat her outside of her human colleagues’ working hours (8 a.m. – 8 p.m. PST), it will take longer for her to deliver the content to you. In the off chance that your question requires additional extensive research, Gali may take even more time to make sure the information she shares is accurate, but you will always receive a response.

Rewards

How do I earn and redeem points within the Gali app?

You receive Gali Points for several different actions in the app, like monitoring your health and adding to Gali’s content resources. Points can be redeemed for donations to charitable organizations or for Gali swag items. What features are currently in development?

Personal health profile

The health information you provide during onboarding, regular monitoring and surveys will be available in your Personal Health Profile. You will be able to make updates to your health history, thus helping Gali to personalize your feed and make your experience as relevant as possible.

Personalized learning programs

The Gali Health Team is working on creating in-depth, focused Learning Programs related to specific topics in IBD.
